Keeping Followers Engaged on Facebook

Facebook followersYou know all about how to gather followers on Facebook by now. You know how to attract the right audience and what to say to get more likes day to day. That’s not all there is to it, however; just because you’ve gained followers doesn’t mean you’ll be able to keep them without some careful upkeep. As it turns out, gaining and maintaining Facebook followers can require two different skill sets; both involve customer engagement, but while the former it about being exceedingly interesting in short bursts, the latter is more about being valuable.

If you want to keep your followers happy and interested, you’ll need some effective Facebook engagement tricks. Here are a few favorites:

  • Figure out what valuable means. It’s easy to spout off about the need to post valuable content, it’s important to figure out what your target audience and current followers find valuable. According to Social Media Examiner the key here is to keep up the inclusion of “sticky” content, including high-quality images and educational, even inspirational content. Offer solutions to your audience’s problems with pictures and links to drive traffic to your website or blog; this not only creates content that sticks and appeals to your current followers, but if the content is educational enough it can even be highly sharable, spreading your reach.
  • Ask questions. This shouldn’t be a daily post, but once a week or so make sure to open up a conversation with your existing customers about your industry, products or even just your location. Ask your followers to fill in the blank, share a story or answer a trivia question—all three are great for starting conversations and get your posts noticed. You can also use this as the basis for promotions by offering discounts to the people who respond or create a spur of the moment contest for people who get answer questions correctly. At the same time, you’re increasing engagement and keeping users interested in what you have to say.
  • Don’t forget hashtags. While these are still fairly new to Facebook, hashtags nonetheless help to interest more users in your content by making it part of a whole and allowing other users to get in on the conversation with the utilization of the same hashtag. The right tag can turn that conversation into a powerful customer engagement campaign.
  • Share some wisdom. According to Mashable, using quotes is one of the simplest, most popular and most effective ways to create more sharable content. This allows visitors and loyal followers to draw something personal from your quote, reminding them of why they followed you in the first place and boosting your posts’ popularity.

There are plenty of ways to keep your Facebook followers engaged, with some more suited to your audience than others. Don’t be afraid to try new things, but be prepared to suffer through some trial and error while you figure out what works best for your customer base. It’s worth taking the time to make sure you can do it right!
